The Latino Equity Fund announces $450,000 in grants to 13 Latinx-led and Latinx-serving organizations
LEF surpasses $2.3 million in overall grantmaking since 2013
December 4, 2024
Boston – The Latino Equity Fund at the Boston Foundation (LEF) today announced $450,000 in grants to 13 Latinx-serving organizations in Massachusetts. The grants, made through an open request for proposals this fall, bring the Fund’s total grantmaking to over $2.3 million since 2013, with $1.2 million distributed since Javier Juarez became the Fund’s Director in early 2023.
“Our holistic funding approach this cycle led to support for a strikingly diverse docket, including established organizations and incredible start-ups,” said Javier Juarez. “A review of the applications also underscored the importance of galvanizing even greater philanthropy to support the Latinx community and meet the growing need. We received an accumulated request of $4.5 million in support, which led to some very difficult decisions, but while we were unable to fulfill every request, this cycle again demonstrated the remarkable reach of Latinx-led and -serving organizations in our communities.“
The Latino Equity Fund, a unique partnership between local Latinx leaders and the Boston Foundation, is the first and largest Latinx-focused fund in the Commonwealth. The LEF uses its influence and platform to amplify diverse voices and perspectives within the Latinx community in Greater Boston and the state, with a focus on achieving greater and more equitable access to economic prosperity and well-being.
“By investing in these organizations and leaders, we’re not just supporting programs; we’re fostering resilience, justice, and community health for thousands of individuals and families striving to overcome adversity and thrive in Massachusetts,” said Zamawa Arenas, who transitioned to co-chair of the fund in the fall.
“I am proud of the work happening at LEF. Our foundation's support can amplify their transformative impact, ensuring that all Latinos, including immigrant workers, students, and low-income families, have access to the tools and resources they need to achieve dignity, opportunity, and success.” Added Juan Lopera, co-chair of the Latino Equity Fund Advisory Board.
