TBF Equity Funds receive $3 million from Point32Health Foundation

Asian Community Fund, Equality Fund and Latino Equity Fund each slated for $1 million over five years

December 19, 2024

Boston – The Boston Foundation today announced that the Asian Community Fund, the Equality Fund and the Latino Equity Fund are each receiving a $1 million grant from the Point32Health Foundation, closing out a 2024 in which the three funds distributed a record amount in grants to nonprofit organizations, while expanding their commitments to research, convening and advocacy work on issues critical to their communities.

The grants are part of a $15 million commitment to social and racial justice over the next five years made by the Point32Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Point32Health and its family of companies, including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Tufts Health Plan and Care Partners of Connecticut.

“This funding represents a transformative investment in advancing social and racial justice, and strengthening the capacity of the AAPI nonprofit, business, and cultural sectors,” said Danielle Kim, Executive Director of the Asian Community Fund. “This gift will help power the expansion of vital AAPI-led coalitions and amplify greater AAPI visibility and community leadership across our region.”

“As we prepare to open our 2025 funding cycle, we thank the Point32Health Foundation for their commitment to work that supports equity for LGBTQ+ people across the region,” said Scott Knox, Executive Director of the Equality Fund. “The LGBTQ+ leaders who founded the Equality Fund envisioned a philanthropic resource dedicated to the queer and trans community agile enough to respond to each generation's needs. That vision feels particularly prescient as we head into the new year.  Investments like these make our research, grantmaking and advocacy work possible.”

“My colleagues and I know that our work in support of equity for all people in Massachusetts will be more important than ever in the upcoming years,” said Javier Juarez, Executive Director of the Latino Equity Fund. “In the face of what could be unprecedented challenges to our Latino communities, these funds will help us expand our reach and stand strong with immigrant and other Latino communities who need us now more than ever.”

“This not a time to rest. It is a time to be restless – and relentless – in the pursuit of what is right and just,” said Lee Pelton, President and CEO of the Boston Foundation. “We will continue to encourage and support the work of our equity funds and fight against hate, and we thank the Point32Health Foundation for supporting these critical partnerships with nonprofits and civic leaders.”

These investments are part of Point32Health Foundation’s broader strategy to improve conditions for older people, build community power, promote healthier lives, and advance equitable communities in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Through the multi-year commitments, the Foundation ensures there are dependable resources to advance unique and community-centered solutions.

In calendar year 2024, the Asian Community Fund, the Equality Fund, and Latino Equity Fund distributed over $1.3 million combined to Massachusetts nonprofits, while producing insightful research and convening well over 4,000 people to discuss issues vital to their communities and the city and region as a whole.
